NHS Pharmacy First
NHS Pharmacy First Scotland was introduced by every Pharmacy in Scotland on 29 July 2020. This new service replaced what was previously known as the Minor Ailment Service. NHS Pharmacy First is a consultation service designed for patients to visit their community pharmacy as the first point of contact for all minor illnesses and common clinical conditions.
When you consult with a member of the pharmacy team, they will assess your symptoms resulting in one or more of the following outcomes:
-
Advice on your Symptoms - they will help you manage the condition yourself by discussing the appropriate self-care advice.
-
Recommend Treatment - they will supply an appropriate treatment for the symptoms (either NHS or over the counter sale within OTC product licensing). They will also discuss relevant self-care advice including what to do if symptoms do not improve.
-
Referral to Other Services - they will refer you to another healthcare professional, if appropriate.
